Series 5: Finger Knit Bombed
This series was sparked by a confluence of dark stories and images revealing whales and dauphins in distress and dying. Some were trapped in fishing nets, others died from consuming dis-guarded human plastic pollutants. In my work I cut the dress-maker’s tissue into strips and treat it as a yarn- finger bomb crocheting it over my sculpture. Knit bombing which took off a few years ago is also referred to as guerrilla knitting, yarn storming, kniffiti, urban knitting, yarn storming or street art graffiti. It seemed the perfect technique to encase my biomorphic organisms and explain their dystopian life-cycle stage.
